Project Lifesaver International's PLI 3000 is the organization's newest and most effective tool for search and rescue of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease, Autism, and Down syndrome who are at constant risk to the life threatening behavior of wandering.
The PLI 3000 is the latest generation of radio frequency tracking receivers. The PLI 3000 is compatible with all existing Project Lifesaver search and rescue equipment and transmitters currently deployed in the field.
The PLI 3000 operates off of a 9 volt battery and has the capability to work in the 215-218MHz bands. The range of the PLI 3000 is approximately one mile in on-the-ground searches and 5-7 miles in searches by helicopter. The Project Lifesaver transmitting wrist or ankle bracelet emits a Radio Frequency signal every second, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for a full 30 days, which means caregivers only need to change batteries once a month.
Project Lifesaver utilizes Radio Frequency technology because this is the tried and true technology of choice by law enforcement professionals for this specific type of search and rescue operation because, unlike cellular and GPS technology, its signal does not rely on fragile cellular networks or satellite signals that are weather dependent. Radio Frequency technology is reliable and can track an individual who wanders during adverse weather conditions, in water, in a densely wooded area, in a concrete or steel structure, or in a building.
The PLI 3000 can be used interchangeably with either an Omni or a Yagi antenna depending on the situation. A Yagi antenna is a unidirectional antenna and an omni antenna is an antenna which radiates power uniformly in all directions. The yagi antenna configuration uniquely combines with the PLI 3000 receiver to create a compact single unit allowing the operator to free up one hand while searching.
